Demo Day Fall 2018

November 29, 2018

Join us on Thursday, December 6th, 4:00 pm at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, 30 W Dale St. 80903, Colorado Springs, as our students present on the four projects that have been developed/continued this Fall Semester! RSVP

As you probably know, each semester the Quad Innovation Partnership facilitates teams of interdisciplinary students, expert faculty, and professional staff  to advance project-based work benefiting the greater Colorado Springs community. Our students come from the four colleges right in our own community: Colorado College, Pikes Peak Community College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and the United States Air Force Academy.

This Demo Day, our students will be presenting project milestones, recommendations, and conclusions for each of these four projects:

Social Service Access

The City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County came to the Quad with the vision of improving social services access for people in the region. This Quad project spanned over three semesters. Spring Semester consisted of research and discovery. Students in the Summer Semester designed a concept system to increase information accessibility and trust, thereby reducing the barriers that prevented service utilization. Project work was packaged into a report. This fall, students completed the final semester for this project, synthesizing reports from Spring and Sumer into a final report that delivers recommendations on social service and information access for the city and county, including good, better, best analysis for current and proposed systems.  You can read more about the project here.  At Demo Day, you will hear about the final recommendations made to the City and County to improve access to social services, and the process used to develop them.

Silver Key

Silver Key Senior Services is a local organization that supports quality of life for seniors. Silver Key approached the Quad Innovation Partnership to create a business plan that would leverage their existing assets in order to deepen their social impact through new revenue, employment opportunities for low-income seniors, and other benefits for its target demographics through creating a social enterprise. You can read more about the project hereAt Demo Day, you will learn about the final business plan delivered to Silver Key for their new social enterprise! Our project team is presenting an idea that is innovative, exciting, and worthwhile! You won’t want to miss it!

Ventucci Farms

Venetucci Farm has an important legacy in our community. As so, in consideration of the PFC-contamination of the Widefield Aquifer, the Pikes Peak Community Foundation (PPCF) commissioned the Quad Innovation Partnership to complete a study of viable uses for the Venetucci Farm property. Our Summer teams compiled, analyzed and assessed the many models and ideas proposed for the Farm in terms of operational feasibility, financial sustainability and community impact in order to develop recommendations on the best uses for the Farm. Our Fall Semester team continued the research and converstation that will allow our upcoming Spring semester team to deliver a finalized report to the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and Venetucci Farms by summer 2019. You can learn more about this project and give your input on ideas our teams have had for future direction for the farm here. At Demo Day, you will hear our fall semester project team deliver an update on research and analysis completed to date on Venetucci Farm and an outline of next steps.

Colorado Springs Utilities

As a four-service public utility, Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) provides electricity, natural gas, water and wastewater services to the Pikes Peak region. The energy market is currently undergoing unprecedented, rapid change. Technology, infrastructure, and strategy considered cutting-edge less than ten years ago is increasingly proving to become obsolete or no longer appropriate for the realities of the third decade of the 21st century. Our Fall Semester team worked toward disocvering best practices for developing new energy and energy storage strategies to prepare the organization for the future. This project will continue on to the Spring Semester. You can learn more about the Colorado Springs Utilities Engeries project here. At Demo Day, our Fall Semester team will deliver an update on research and analysis completed to date for the study of end-use energy sources for Colorado Springs Utilities.
